He/Him | They/Them
Johnathan’s research investigates the linkages between ethics, emotions, and queer life, particularly through the lens of safety, which they explored during their 20 months of fieldwork in Amman, Jordan from 2022-2024. Prior to BU, Johnathan received an MA in theological and cultural anthropology from Eastern University, where they focused on migration in and through the Hebrew Bible, and a BA in intercultural studies from the University of Valley Forge. They are a non-native Arabic speaker and have lived in Palestine, Egypt, and Jordan. When not writing the dissertation or teaching, Johnathan enjoys spending time with their husband, Changtao, and their dog, Simba, a 7.5 year old black lab. They love bike riding, walking the dog, berry picking, and whipping up something new and exciting in the kitchen.
