
Charley Binkow’s research focuses on the history of American culture, medicine, and gender during the Civil War era. He grew up in Los Angeles, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and then moved to Boston for his PhD. He is currently writing a dissertation on the criminalization of abortion in nineteenth-century America under the direction of Professor Nina Silber. A Shakespeare enthusiast (and former performer) he also runs a reading group for graduate students.
