Why do so many children still lack the essentials—healthcare access, financial stability, quality schools, even clean air and parks—that would give them the best chance at a happy, healthy life? And what will it take to level the playing field? BU researchers in social work, public health, data science, and more are tackling these questions, knowing that an investment in their life during childhood is an investment in their future potential as adults. We’re also studying how social, economic, political, and environmental systems shape opportunity across communities. Our work relies on convergent expertise in economics, public policy, education, data science, and the social sciences to understand the structural drivers of inequality and identify pathways toward more inclusive and resilient societies.
