COM Mentors: Alumni-Student Mentor Program

COM Mentors is a virtual mentoring program for alumni and students to connect. The program is led by COM Career Services. Students and alumni are matched and participate in the program for one semester.

This program occurs annually in the Spring. For any questions about the mentor program, email csmentor@bu.edu

Goals of the program:

  1. Foster Meaningful Connections
    Build supportive alumni-student reciprocal relationships that encourage reflection, professional growth, and long-term career confidence.
  2. Explore Career Pathways
    Provide insight into careers through personal storytelling, real-world experiences, and practical tools.
  3. Strengthen Professional Skills
    Support mentees in developing the skills and mindset needed to navigate internships, job searches, and early career challenges, including interpersonal communication, responsibility, self-motivation and leadership.
  4. Navigating Workplace Culture
    Encourage open dialogue about how to build collaborative relationships with colleagues with different backgrounds and perspectives while still honoring personal integrity.

Details:
Eligibility: Juniors, Seniors and Graduate COM students
Commitment: Four one-hour meetings
Duration: 1 semester (3-4 months)
Support: Resources and guides provided for mentors, including a list of suggested questions for mentors and mentees to ask one another during each of the four meetings

Important Dates:
November 2025 Application Opens for Students and Alumni Mentors
December 2025 Application Closes for COM Mentors Spring Cohort
February 2026 Matches sent to Mentors and Mentees
April 2026 Program Ends

To participate as an ALUMNI mentor in the program:

  1. Sign up to be an Alumni Mentor
  2. Join the COM Connects group on BU Connects
  3. RSVP for 30-minute virtual mentor training to learn more about the program.

To participate as a STUDENT mentee in the program:

Eligibility: Juniors, Seniors, and Masters students. The signup link for the program will be shared during all of the COM Mentors information sessions.

  1. Join the COM Connects group on BU Connects and update your profile with relevant personal and career information
  2. RSVP for a 30-minute mandatory mentee training to learn more about the program. sign-up link for COM Mentors program will be given at the information session.
