NY Times’ journalist David Carr to join COM
The College of Communication has named prestigious New York Times columnist David Carr as the first Andrew R. Lack professor. While continuing to write for The Times, Carr will teach one class each semester — media criticism and another dedicated to exploring creative business models to support the future of journalism in the digital era.
Dean Thomas Fiedler ('71) told The Boston Globe that he is ecstatic about having Carr join the faculty at COM. “I have been walking about 6 inches above the floor,” said Fiedler.
Carr will continue to work and the Times and write his influential "Media Equation" column. Carr told BU Today that he hopes his efforts at BU will “make students a little wiser, and that BU students will make him a little smarter.”
More from BU Today:
“One course will be straight-up media criticism and the other will be more of an exploration of the information economy by participating in it,” says Carr. “Students are going to have to make and distribute content of some form, although what that content will be is still up in the air.”
