Megan Smith (’16) sheds light on human trafficking

Scholarship recipient and journalism student Megan Smith ('16) is shedding light on human trafficking by telling stories of survivors through research and video testimony. This journalistic storytelling endeavor will make for a personal way to educate people of what human trafficking looks like today.

Smith's project — a website that compiles all of her work — will be completed by April 22, and will be presented the subsequent weekend. She is also partnering with a band a student group at Berklee College of Music to put on an awareness concert at the end of April, where Smith will share her project, host speakers and stage a small non-profit fair. Smith's goal is to make a change, encourage others to make a change and provide hope for survivors, women currently stuck in the industry and abolitionists like herself.

In light of Giving Day on April 6, Boston University Development and Alumni Relations featured Smith in a video on their Facebook page to promote people to donate so scholarships can fund important projects like Smith's.

The Boston University Kilachand Honors College Symposium is Sunday April 24th, at 9 a.m. on the 6th floor of 100 Baystate.

The awareness concert is April 30th, 2-4 p.m. held at "The Loft" on Berklee's campus, at 921 Boylston Street. They will have a survivor speaking, as well as two non-profits and have at least five non profits confirmed for the non-profit fair that is following.
