COM Advertising Students Win at Young Ones

COM advertising students won big at this year’s Young Ones, a highly-regarded, global competition for student creatives.

Jesse Uiterwijk and Kelsey Sarracino won the top honor — a coveted gold “Pencil” — in the One Show category for “Evergreen,” their campaign on behalf of Door Dash and their ideas for green delivery features. The award was one of only 10 such awards given in the worldwide competition.

Caroline Richardson and Amand Berman were finalists in the ADC category for “I am a Victim,” their work on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund.

COM’s Michelle Sylvest and students from the Glasgow School of Art in Singapore and Kean University in New Jersey were finalists in the One Show category for “Love Is War Zone,” their work on behalf of Activision Blizzard.

They will be honored at a New York gala on May 16.

“In a show like The One Club Young Ones, our students are competing with top schools from around the globe. To see our portfolio students succeed at such a high level speaks volumes about their creative ability, hard work and perseverance,” said Pegeen Ryan, associate professor of the practice in advertising at COM. “I know I speak on behalf of all the Advertising faculty when I say how proud we are of them.”

Ten other teams of COM students — all students of the portfolio classes taught by Pegeen Ryan, Doug Gould and Mike Davis — were shortlisted in the competition: Jess Stevens and Arden Grant, “Shuffled Stories” for Spotify; Julia Peller and Sherry Ma, “Step into the Spotlight” for Spotify; Alexa Sudarto and James Greene, “Hear Your Colors” for Band & Olufson; Gwynn Vaiciulis and Lisa Teri Ilmin, “Wordle While You Wait” for Door Dash; Yi-Wen Wong and Shaw-Ting Tsung, “Operation: Airdrop Inbound” for Call of Duty; Virginia Bonilla, Jordan Brandon, Maggie Liu and Shuangyi Wang, “Words With Emotion” for Spotify; Carolyn Casper and Tiffany Kung, “Be Well Listened” for Spotify; Michelle Sylvest, Jenny Kim and India Perman, “Loud & Clear” for Bang & Olufson; Yuanqi Alice Yan, “Get Naked” for Naked Juice; and Kieran Murray, Portfolio Competition.

The Young Ones awards are sponsored by the One Club for Creativity, a New York-based nonprofit that “supports and celebrates the success of the global creative community.
