Boston University is dedicated to student success in an increasingly interconnected world and the importance of global diversity. COM shares this belief, and we’re developing thought-leadership activities and new learning opportunities.

We are launching a center for social impact communication to develop new certificates and degree programs, host an annual conference, and lead research collaborations across the University.

COM faculty work across disciplines with affiliations with the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases Policy & Research, Faculty of Computing and Data Science and the Institute for Global Sustainability. We spotlight faculty research through BU’s expert database, publications, events and media interviews.

Nollywood is one of the fastest growing film industries in the world. With a huge global audience within the Black diaspora, it’s challenging the traditional mega film industries of Hollywood and Bollywood. After creating the tagline, “Made by Africans, watched by the world,” Netflix has invested 40+ million dollars to stream to categories on its platform: Made by Africa and Nollywood Movies and TV. How has Nollywood become a powerhouse in a short time with the fraction of the money available to the US, India, and other leading film industries? How will it maintain its position as the second largest film industry in the world? What will be Nollywood’s future?

NEXT: Cultivate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

At COM, we are striving to create this kind of culture by supporting students, improving recruitment, and ensuring equity in expectations.
