Marwa Ben Khalifa is a Ph.D. candidate in political science, where she studies democracy and democratic erosion in new and emerging democracies. Specifically, her dissertation explores the construction and execution of European Union (EU) democracy aid in Tunisia and Georgia during critical windows of opportunities in order to understand their regime trajectories. In Spring 2026, Marwa’s received a summer-mini grant which will support the first phase of her fieldwork in Brussels, Belgium which  entails conducing semi-structured interviews with EU officials and policy makers in order to explore the ideas, beliefs and theories that guide their decision-making process during critical windows of opportunities.
