Andrea Beltrán-Lizarazo is a Ph.D. candidate in sociology. In Spring 2024, Andrea received a CISS Summer mini-grant to support the creation of a novel database of extradition cases from Colombia to the United States. This research aims to uncover the bureaucratic foundations of this expansion by employing data science techniques to analyze over 4,000 administrative and judicial records.bLearn more in our featured article.
In Spring 2026, Andrea received a summer mini-grant which will support the creation of a linked dataset connecting nearly 3,000 Colombian extradition records to corresponding U.S. federal court records for her project, “Making Extradition Visible: The Scope and Scale of Colombia–U.S. Extradition, 2000–2020”. The dataset will make it possible to analyze charges, sentencing outcomes, and substantial assistance agreements in Colombia–U.S. extradition cases.
