Shiela Kibbe

Associate Professor and Chair Keyboard; Coordinator, Collaborative Piano

Shiela Kibbe is Chairman of the Keyboard Department and coordinator of collaborative pianists throughout the School of Music. Hailed in the Boston Globe as an “authoritative pianist” and “superb collaborative pianist,” she has enjoyed an international career as recital partner to instrumentalists and vocalists alike, concertizing throughout the United States and Europe, as well as in China, Japan, and Russia.

Kibbe has premiered works by American composers Howard Frazin, Daniel Pinkham, Elena Ruehr, David Sisco, Julian Wachner, and John Wallace, and has been a guest artist for the Eastern Trombone Workshop, Florestan Recital Project, International Trumpet Guild, National Trumpet Competition, International Trombone Association, Naumburg Vocal Competition, and WordSong, Inc. She has served as pianist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Festival Chorus, principal keyboardist and vocal coach for the Symphony and Opera Association in Chattanooga, TN, and pianist for the Pennsylvania Opera Theatre, the Philadelphia Woodwind Quintet Seminars, and the Ithaca, NY International Suzuki Institute.

Kibbe has presented master classes for students at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Butler School of Music, Hartt School of Music, Ithaca College School of Music, Juilliard School of Music, Princeton University, University of Arizona, University of Massachusetts, and conservatories in Xi’an and Shenyang, CHINA. Graduates of her Boston University studio hold teaching and performing positions with academic and artistic organizations across the United States and in Asia.
