Boston Could Join Fossil Fuel Ban Pilot

In a recent wave towards environmental justice and sustainability, Massachusetts law has outlined a process to lower greenhouse gas emissions from the building sector with a fossil fuel ban pilot of ten communities. As one of the original pilot communities, West Tisbury has formally announced its plans to step aside, allowing an opportunity for municipalities such as Boston or Somerville to step up. 

In his report for State House News Service, reporter Chris Lisinski announces the steps the Department of Energy Resources is taking to fill this spot.

"While West Tisbury ‘would very much like to participate,’ Rand said, the town ‘cannot meet the required affordable housing criteria.’

‘In stepping aside, we hope to make way for a large, diverse municipality to be part of the pilot, providing an opportunity for a greater impact on this program,’ Rand wrote, urging the Department of Energy Resources to pick a replacement ‘promptly’ [...]”
