Michael Piacentino of the Dr. Cynthia Bradham lab was the recipient of the Terner Award for 2015. Piacentino is studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which the skeletogenic Primary Mesenchyme Cells (PMCs) receive patterning information from the overlying ectoderm and consequently translate this into proper cellular organization through processes such as cell migration, extracellular signaling and ECM remodeling.

The Terner Award aims to recognize outstanding contributions to science by PhD candidate students performed by current PhD graduates of the CM and MCBB program.
