Elena Gomez, a senior pursuing a degree in Biology with a Specialization in Ecology & Conservation Biology and a minor in Marine Science, received an Outstanding Student Researcher Award from UROP for her research conducted during Summer 2020.
Elena has been working with Dr. Karen Warkentin and Ph.D. student Brandon Güell to explore how red-eyed tree frog embryo development changes the escape-hatching success during predatory wasp attacks. Their research suggests that the developmental increase in escape success is due to changes in embryo behavior, not escape-hatching performance, indicating relevant sensory system development and changes in escape hatching decisions. This work is currently being prepared for publication. We are so proud of you, Elena!
