Biology Professors Tom Gilmore and Jen-Wei Lin have recently published peer-reviewed papers from research projects that were initiated in their undergraduate laboratory courses, Molecular Biology Laboratory (BB522, Gilmore) and Cellular & Molecular Neurophysiology (BI/NE 445, Lin). In Gilmore’s case, the research appeared in the December 2015 issue of BIOS, the journal of the National Biological Honor Society Beta Beta Beta, and included 39 student authors from the class. For Lin, the research appeared in Neuroscience Letters and included five student authors from his class. Gilmore and Lin also acknowledged support for these publications from research grants from UROP and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Both professors believe the classroom is an under utilized venue for engaging undergraduates in real-life research. The citations of these papers are as follows:
