BU Biology Professor Tom Gilmore and colleagues Virginia Weis and Sandra Loesgen at Oregon State University have been awarded a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation entitled “Glycan Recognition and the Role of Innate Immunity in Cnidarian-dinoflagellate Symbioses”. This research will study molecules and recognition patterns that appear to be involved in simple immune responses in marine invertebrates. This research may also have relevance to the damaging effects of climate change on marine invertebrates such as sea anemones and corals.
