Grant Applications and Evaluation

Boston University is committed to creating a diverse and equitable environment for our faculty, researchers, staff, and students.  As part of this commitment, and to remain competitive for funding opportunities and traineeships, bio-demographic data about faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and PhD students in STEM fields is regularly collected.  This data collection is based on recently expanded criteria developed by the National Institutes of Health, as well as new self-identification measures currently being implemented at Boston University.

Data collected is confidential and accessible at the record level only to administrators in Analytical Services & Institutional Researchers and the Office of Research who provide support to grant applicants, all of whom will maintain the confidentiality of the data.  Any data shared or published will be at the aggregate level, and no respondent will be individually identified.

This data will be used only in the context of grant and traineeship applications, periodic reporting, evaluation, and monitoring.  This data will be kept securely and separately from any bio-demographic data that has been provided through human resources or student records.  This data will be refreshed twice annually to collect new and missing information to maintain a comprehensive set of records in order to meet the application requirements set forward by external granting agencies.

Please direct any questions about this data collection effort to Dr. Sarah Hokanson, Assistant Provost, Professional Development & Postdoctoral Affairs (sch1@bu.edu) or Dr. Linette Decarie, Assistant Vice President for Analytical Services & Institutional Research (decarie@bu.edu).
