Data Custodian

The Data Custodian is responsible for the technical management of BU’s data systems. They ensure data is securely stored, accessible, and compliant with governance policies. This role focuses on infrastructure, metadata, data pipelines, and system integration in collaboration with Data Stewards, Trustees, and the Data Governance team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintain data infrastructure across physical, cloud, and warehouse systems
• Capture and manage technical metadata (e.g., lineage, schemas, data dictionaries)
• Implement security measures including access controls, encryption, and backups
• Collaborate to support data access and role-based governance
• Enable automated metadata harvesting from systems
• Resolve technical issues and maintain system performance
• Ensure compliance with governance policies and data privacy standards
