Job: Studio Manager
We are seeking an organized, proactive, and detail-obsessed Studio Manager to support one of the world’s most prominent political artists. She also serves as a senior faculty member at Harvard University. This is a part-time role (15 hours/week) built around a daily one-hour morning check-in, with the remaining hours spent executing the logistics, communications, and coordination that keep a globally active artist studio running. Your job is to clear the path so she can make the work.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own the calendar — scheduling, protecting time, anticipating conflicts before they happen
- Triage and field incoming requests for speaking engagements, interviews, and institutional invitations — drafting responses and managing follow-through
- Communicate professionally with galleries, art museums, curators, and cultural institutions around the world. Keep notes and tasks from the meeting.
- Coordinate logistics for the movement, storage, and care of large-scale artworks, including negotiating with vendors, storage facilities, and shippers
- Coordinate production, subcontractors, and source supplies, and negotiate with vendors internationally — finding the best deal is a skill we value
- Maintain and update digital archives, data storage systems, website, and online presence
- Handle day-to-day errands and studio tasks: copying keys, picking up supplies, whatever needs doing
- Serve as the daily briefing system — walking her through what’s ahead each morning so she doesn’t have to carry it mentally
WHO YOU ARE
- Based in the Boston/Cambridge area and available to meet in person on weekdays
- You love to work for others and support their work
- A natural logistician: you get genuine satisfaction from solving the puzzle of how things move, fit, and get done
- Discreet, reliable, and comfortable working behind the scenes — you get things done
- Proactive rather than reactive: you spot the problem before it becomes one
- Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities — no two days look the same
- Curious about contemporary art, political performance, or social practice
- A recent college graduate or early-career art admin eager to grow inside a uniquely demanding and meaningful creative environment
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
NICE TO HAVE
- Graduated or have experience in Arts Administration or Arts Management
- Experience in arts administration, event coordination, or gallery/museum work
- Comfort with Google Workspace, cloud storage systems, and basic web content management
- Experience communicating across time zones and cultures
SCHEDULE
- Part-Time · Boston/Cambridge, MA · 15 hrs/week
- Compensation commensurate with experience
THE RIGHT FIT FOR THIS ROLE
You will thrive here if you are the kind of person who finds deep satisfaction in doing invisible work that enables extraordinary art. The artist you’ll be supporting has spent her career taking risks and operating at the edge of what art can do in the world — including at significant personal cost. Your role is to make sure that when she wakes up, the path is clear.
