“African American Writers and Poets as Agents of Change” by Charles Coe

 

Writer, Poet and Educator Charles Coe will highlight African-American writers and poets who’ve promoted the causes of social and political justice. He’ll discuss artists such as enslaved Phillis Wheatley, the first African American to print a book of poetry; Abolitionist Frederick Douglas; great writers of the Harlem Renaissance such as Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, and Zora Neale Hurston; and modern writers such as Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, and Etheridge Knight.
