PT Job: Marketing/Communications

Masterworks Chorale seeks a part-time marketing and communications support position.

BACKGROUND:

Masterworks Chorale, (masterworkschorale.org), an auditioned, 84-year-old choral ensemble under the leadership of Dr. Kevin Leong, is interested in increasing its brand presence in the greater Boston area, and differentiating itself among the myriad choral groups in this market. A new creative strategy and positioning were developed several years ago, and while this work has largely been supported with volunteer labor, the Board now realizes that this is now better placed in the hands of someone who has relevant experience, and can respond in a timely manner. The prospect should be able to connect with our new creative strategy. We are looking for a candidate who has a myriad of marketing/communications experiences to help Masterworks Chorale develop beyond its membership, and lead us to a greater visibility.

PROJECT SCOPE:

Masterworks presents three concerts annually, (November, March and May) two Messiah Sings (Friday evening and Saturday afternoon in December) and a series (six Tuesday evenings) of Summer Sings (June/July) that need promotional support. One concert is at Sanders Theatre in Cambridge and two at First Church Cambridge. Time needed would probably be 20-25 hours per concert cycle depending on prospect’s skill level, 3 hours for Messiah Sing promotions, 3-5 hours for Summer Sing promotions and 3 hours for New Member Auditions in September, November and March. In addition Masterworks needs to advance and expand our fundraising projects and outreach in the fall and spring. Tactics would include the creation and management of email campaigns to promote these events using our new CRM database integrator, Neon One. Training on Neon One would be the first priority. Other tasks would include content development and updates for the website. Having experience with the website platform Squarespace will be necessary. We would like the new person to have experience with Search Engine Optimization as well. A separate graphics design person has been hired.

REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate? Someone who has strong writing skills, and is able to tease out reasons why audiences will appreciate the best of this choral repertoire and help the audience with the question, ‘Why should I come to hear Masterworks Chorale?’ Someone organized to develop and schedule digital campaigns to drive ticket revenue and the proverbial ‘butts in seats.’ Someone who can write persuasive, promotional copy and build simple e-campaigns, so that we can enlarge our databases and broaden the Chorale’s institutional reputation. This person would work closely with a board member who has led the organization in strategic planning and creative strategy development. They would work together on creating the calendar of marketing/ communications projects. Experience in the non-profit arts segment is desirable.

FEE: (Negotiable)

$35-40/hr. These hourly wages would be negotiated based on the candidates’ skill set and experience. The number of project hours would be flexible. A project calendar will be created with a Masterworks Board member and will be planned well in advance.
