Job: Assistant Director

The Assistant Director, Institutional Giving and Development Operations is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to secure funding from foundations, corporations and government agencies, managing these institutional relationships, and overseeing the operational aspects of the development department. Because this person will be on the front line of communicating our social justice mission, they must be adept at communicating the importance of advancing equity. This role requires a combination of analytical thinking, exceptional writing skills, and an obsession with organizing information in a clear and compelling way.
Responsibilities
1. Institutional Giving
- Identify and research potential institutional donors, including foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential institutional donors.
- Prepare compelling grant proposals, applications, and reports to secure funding for general operations, scholarships, and signature programs.
- Create corporate sponsorship opportunities that support Longy events; secure the funding and ensure benefits of sponsorship are delivered.
- Ensure compliance with grant and reporting requirements.
- Develop and implement stewardship plans to cultivate and retain institutional donors.
- Maintain thorough understanding of Longy degree and non-degree programs, as well as artistic season, through collaboration with Academic Affairs staff.

2. Development Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the development department, ensuring efficient and effective processes.
- Implement and maintain donor management systems and databases.
- Run reports to support fundraising strategy and campaigns.
- Manage gift processing, acknowledgment letters, and donor record maintenance.
- Generate and deliver regular reports on fundraising progress and financial performance, in collaboration with the Business Office.
- Work closely with other departments to gather information for proposals and reports.
- Other duties, as assigned.
3. Event Support, as assigned (duties shared among the Development team)
- Attend key events and concerts on a regular basis to ensure a welcoming guest experience for top donors and prospects.
- Staff Longy concerts and events where donors, board members and stakeholders may be in attendance.
- Organize and assist with fundraising events, meetings, and engagement activities, as needed.
- Assist with event budget management, invitations, ticketing, setup and breakdown of event spaces, food, beverage, and decorations.
- Arrange for and supervise student workers at events.
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in institutional giving and development operations.
- Strong understanding of fundraising principles and donor relations.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make people feel welcomed and heard; this extends from fellow colleagues, to program participants, and to members of the public.
- Creativity and humor, with enthusiasm for exploring new ways doing things.
- Track record as an organized, quick and strategic thinker.
- Ability to perform well under deadlines and in high-energy situations.
- Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends, as Longy is a performing arts school.
- Proficiency in donor management software (Raisers Edge preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
