Job: Annual Giving Officer
Reporting to the Director, Annual Programs, the Annual Giving Officer is an integral member of the Annual Programs team. Under the direction of the Director of Annual Programs, the Annual Giving Officer is responsible for identifying and implementing strategies to grow unrestricted giving through the acquisition, renewal, and increased giving of donors, with a particular focus on the next generation of MFA philanthropists. The Annual Giving Officer ensures that the program is well coordinated with the Museum’s Development and Membership efforts and communication channels. The Annual Giving Officer is a new role, and the successful candidate will bring flexibility, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit to the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship (approximately 60% of the role)
- Cultivate and steward a portfolio of Museum Council and Patron Program members representing the next generation of MFA philanthropists, via Zoom and in-person meetings. In coordination with staff and volunteers, pro-actively reach out to new members. Meet annual goals for number of visits; membership upgrades; and new Curators Circles members.
Volunteer Management (approximately 15% of the role)
- Serve as the staff support for volunteer Young Patron Committee members. Provide guidance on ways they can support the MFA in transitioning Museum Council members into the Patron Program, growing this cohort, and deepening their relationships with the Museum. Set meeting dates and agendas; meet individually with volunteers; provide information needed to complete tasks; etc.
Event Planning (approximately 15% of the role)
- With the volunteer Young Patron Committee, support planning of creative and strategic events, such as programming for families with school-aged children, designed to deepen relationships with the Museum. Confirm dates; manage logistics; track RSVPs; liaison with speakers; and compile event feedback. Draft welcome remarks and communicate other event needs to volunteer Committee members.
Support of Annual Programs Efforts (approximately 10% of the role)
- In high-volume moments, participate in outreach and stewardship of Patron Program, MFA Fund, and Museum Council donors.
Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 3-5+ years of fundraising experience or work on an Annual Fund team.
- Strong client service orientation and an enthusiasm for working with donor volunteers.
- Self-motivated with demonstrated experience developing strategies that meet established fiscal and program goals.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks fluidly.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- A collaborative style conducive to supporting ongoing work with internal and external partners
- Able to handle confidential information with care and sensitivity.
- Maturity, flexibility, initiative and ability to work as a team player essential.
- Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends to staff events and volunteer meetings.
- Experience with event planning and management desirable.
- An interest in, or aptitude for, the arts and the museum field desirable
- Ability to succeed in a complex and rewarding environment.
SALARY RANGE:
Full-time Salary, 35 hours per week
Starting Salary: $65,000 – $75,000
