Class of 2025 Celebrated at Friday’s Senior Breakfast

Don’t be alarmed by the long line of hungry students forming outside the George Sherman Union Friday morning around 9:30: it’s the Class of 2025 lining up for the annual Senior Class Breakfast, which starts at 10 sharp.
Considered the official kickoff of Commencement season, the event includes a fancy meal and the details about Boston University’s 152nd Commencement, which will be held on Sunday, May 18, on Nickerson Field.
The highlight of the morning: the news of the Commencement speaker.
After a brief greeting by event emcee Jason Campbell-Foster, BU dean of students, and a prayer by Rev. Robert Allan Hill, dean of Marsh Chapel, the 2,500 seniors will dig into a meal of fresh fruit salad, pastries, lyonnaise potatoes, chicken apple sausage links, and roasted grape tomato, spinach, and mozzarella strata (vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options available).
Then the seniors will receive some important updates: the names of the main Commencement speaker, the honorary degree recipients, the Baccalaureate speaker, and the winners of the University’s highest teaching honors—the Metcalf Cup and Prize and the Metcalf Awards for Excellence in Teaching. Student leaders will talk about Senior Week activities and the progress of the Class Gift Campaign.
The morning will also feature live music and performances by the BU Jazz Combo and the a cappella group In Achord.
This year’s graduating class arrived on campus in August 2021 during a highly unusual time. The country was still deep in the COVID-19 pandemic, and the new Terriers experienced their freshman year amid daily symptom attestations, weekly COVID testing, and constant mask-wearing.
Thankfully, they will now wrap up their college careers with the celebration and ceremony they deserve.
Senior Breakfast is at 10 am Friday, May 2, in the George Sherman Union Metcalf Ballroom, with overflow seating available throughout the facility.
Check back on BU Today Friday afternoon for an updated Senior Breakfast article, with the names of the Commencement speaker, honorary degree recipients, Baccalaureate and student speakers, and Metcalf Cup and Prize and Metcalf Award winners.
