Master of Science in Sport & Entertainment Management

The School of Hospitality Administration’s Master of Science in Sport & Entertainment Management provides students with a unique opportunity to gain a foothold and become a leader in the sports entertainment industry. This program brings a unique management perspective through conceptual coursework and internship opportunities. The sports and entertainment management business involves human interaction, hospitality, teamwork, and large-scale event creation—all of which are essential industry elements. For hospitality professionals, the degree provides the necessary ongoing education to remain competitive and knowledgeable in the changing industry.

Learning Outcomes

Courses examine, in detail, the breadth and depth of the various important parts of the sports and entertainment industry, with a focus on entertainment venues and expanding the management and leadership skills of students. In this program, students will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Understand the foundations of the sports and entertainment industry and its parallels to hospitality: the business landscape and lexicon.
  • Understand the role of teamwork, governance, and sport as a global connector.
  • Understand the management of core hospitality business functions, including, but not limited to, finance and accounting, marketing, human resources, and organizational behavior.
  • Gain knowledge of the aspects of the sports business, from team administration to venue management and event planning.
  • Gain knowledge of the contemporary issues of the sports business, including, but not limited to, law, global and large-scale events, promotions, and labor.
  • Learn how to work with athletes, teams, venue administrators, and affiliate partners for the creation of significant activities.
