International Study

The Arts & Cultural Management program is committed to engaging its students with the global art world. As part of the curriculum requirements, students in the MS and MS with concentrations are required to take MET AR 525 International Arts Practice and Policy. Using the resources of Boston University and other partner institutions abroad, recent courses have been offered in Barcelona, Spain; Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; London, England; Edinburgh, Scotland; Bangkok, Thailand; Dublin, Ireland. The course is typically offered in the Spring semester and Summer I. Topics and locations of the course vary.

Cost

Students are responsible for their own travel and meal costs during the travel course. Housing at very reasonable rates is available through the Program and billed to students’ accounts. The cost of cultural venue admissions and performances are covered by the program.

Because the travel course is offered at the 500-level, the overall cost is only modestly higher than the normal tuition for 600+ level courses in the program. Please note: due to the booking commitments made by the University on behalf of the students enrolled in these courses, they are not subject to the normal drop/add period. Once enrolled you can no longer drop them.

Beginning in 2026, enrollment in the travel courses will also be open to interested program alumni on an audit basis for an additional lab fee, subject to availability.

Time Commitment

Because our program is designed to accommodate full-time working adults, we have designed our travel courses to be intense, short-term study experiences. Each course involves a series of on campus preparatory classes, with travel outside of the US typically taking 7-9 days. Students may arrange their schedules to stay abroad for a longer period if desired.
