Jie Ying received her M.A. degree in bilingual and bicultural education from Columbia University in the City of New York. Before joining BU, she also taught at Princeton University, Harvard University, and University of Pennsylvania. She has been teaching Chinese at all levels on both heritage and non-heritage tracks. She has also served as the senior coordinator for BU Shanghai Center’s Chinese language program and led teaching teams in Harvard and Princeton’s intensive summer study abroad program in Beijing and United Nations’ summer study program in Nanjing. She is an eight-time recipient of the Harvard University Certificate of Teaching Excellence, a recipient of the Elson Family Arts Fund, and a recipient of the UPENN SAS Language Teaching Innovation Grant (2023 & 2024). Her research interests include second language acquisition, teaching methodology, curriculum and multimedia design, instructional technology, creativity and art education.
