Group Tour for BU students through the Thomas Mann Exhibition at the Goethe Institut (10/6)
A group tour for BU students and faculty through an exhibition about Thomas Mann’s commitment to and fight for democracy during the time of National Socialism in Germany’s history. The group tour is on October 6th at 5:30 pm. After the tour, students who are interested can meet with faculty for a reflection and discussion of the exhibition in a separate room at the Goethe Institut.
The traveling exhibition is divided in two parts: part 1 is historical/biographical and presents Thomas Mann’s evolution from a monarchist to a committed defendant of democracy. Part 2 takes Mann’s life as a point of reference and investigates current socio-political issues in Germany and the U.S. (in other words: current anti-democratic tendencies). The exhibition poses the question if Mann’s actions and thoughts can be of relevance today.
The exhibition is in English; all videoclips in German are subtitled in English.
