MFA in Literary Translation Testimonials
As the inaugural semester for the MFA in Literary Translation comes to a close, the first cohort of students reflect on the semester and their experiences so far. Having completed classes such as The History and Theory of Translation (CAS TL 500) and Literary Style Workshops (CAS TL 505), the students are now gearing up for their second semester of translation.

“Having already participated in BU’s Translation Seminar, I knew that the MFA in Literary Translation was going to be a remarkable educational experience. Now, after my first month taking courses, I must admit that my expectations were not high enough. “I had no idea how much I would grow as a translator I’m just the first semester. The professors have been quick to provide resources, input, and even connections to other translators or faculty to help us improve on our skills as translators and students. Professor Anna Elliott has especially gone above and beyond to make classes meaningful and informative. She even invited translator Jay Rubin to our class so we could ask him about his experiences as a translator. My favorite class was TL500, the history and theory of translation. Students from a variety of language backgrounds were able to discuss translation methods and concepts related to their respective language pairs. The different backgrounds and perspectives contributed to in depth conversations of ethics in translations and gave us insight to languages and cultures we may have been unfamiliar with before.
