Fall 2020 Japanese Events

The Japanese language Program hosted a series of optional in-person events as well remote conversations with other students from around the world. Various events including Japanese trivia and scavenger hunt, Japanese table manners session, Japanese calligraphy, Kansai-ben and other dialects, Japanese film discussion, and level-specific conversation sessions all occurred throughout the semester!

CAS LJ 211 D1 celebrated Halloween during class time – Everyone had fun practicing Japanese while dressed in Halloween costumes!

 

The Annual Japanese Speech Contest took place virtually this year. Recent BU Grad Luis Enrique Moya Canovas represented BU. (pictured below)
The 10thAnnual Japanese Speech Contest was held on November 21.  Luis Enrique Moya Canovas (CAS 20) represented BU in the College Intermediate Division.  Many students studying Japanese in schools in New England joined virtually.  Luis gave an outstandingspeech, titledマグロ外交 (Tuna diplomacy)! 

 

CAS LJ 211 and CAS LJ 441 each held collaborative classes with college students in Kyoto. Students from around the world gathered on Zoom for lively conversations in Japanese!
Some classes had a virtual class with Japanese college students in Kyoto, thanks to KCJS’s help to connect us with local students!  LJ211 D1 students had a great time connecting with the students and speaking in Japanese with them.  LJ441 students had a lively discussion on college life, politics, the pandemic, the Olympics, and more!
