Appointment of New Assistant Professor of Korean and Comparative Literature

MLCL is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Yoon Sun Yang as Assistant Professor of Korean and Comparative Literature, a new tenure-track faculty position made possible in part by the generosity of the Korea Foundation. Dr. Yang earned her PhD in East Asian Languages and Civilizations in 2009 at the University of Chicago (after completing two MA’s in Comparative Literature) and since then has held the position of Assistant Professor of Korean Studies at Arizona State University. Dr. Yang is at work on a book on The Rise of Modern Korean Fiction: From Domestic Women to Sentimental Men, 1906-1917; the study aims to give a gender-conscious account of the rise of modern Korean fiction that calls into question dominant accounts of the “rise of individualism” in Korean literature. At BU she will offer a broad array of courses in Korean literature and film and in East Asian and Comparative Literature.
