Graduate Research & Scholarship Award(GRASA)

The Graduate Research & Scholarship Award (GRASA) provides funding support for a graduate student research project that examines questions of significant scholarly importance to fields within education and human development through a well-conceptualized rigorous methodological design.

During each academic year, two awards are given (one in the fall term and one in the spring term). Unsuccessful applicants may resubmit for consideration in a subsequent term.

Maximum Award Amount: $2,500

Submission deadlines: November 1 and March 1.

How to apply for GRASA

• Discuss the project you are applying for with your academic advisor. You will need their approval, with a short letter of recommendation. (Note: the applicant’s advisor will be notified to send a letter of support after the application is submitted.)
• Fill out the GRASA Application Form (below)
• Submit a research statement that includes the following:
• Description of the research problem, rationale, methods, and how funding supports the development of your research program (1,500 words max)
• A budget justification that explains how you plan to spend the funds. Examples include, but are not limited to, participant compensation, transcription, access to databases, analysis software, etc. Priority is given to proposals with well-justified expenditures that will allow the research project to take place. Note: If funding is awarded, it is understood that how the award is spent may need to be adjusted as the project is carried out.

Proposals are reviewed by the research committee based on the strength of: the importance and clarity of the research problem, the rationale, methodological appropriateness and rigor, the importance of the funding for the research, and the letter of support.
