Dr. Ann S. Ferren Research Fund in Education
The Dr. Ann S. Ferren (Wheelock’71) Research Fund in Education provides support annually for the research efforts of one doctoral student who is pursuing a degree in education. An award in the amount of $2,000 will be given to one student nearing completion of the dissertation, with the goal of producing a joint scholarly article or conference presentation under the guidance of a faculty mentor. While there is a preference is for the award to go to doctoral students focusing on secondary education curriculum and instruction, all interested students who are engaged in research focused on the improvement of education, broadly construed, are welcome to apply.
To apply, please submit a letter in the form below, no more than two pages in length, describing:
- The scholarly article or conference presentation that would be supported through this award and its relationship to your dissertation
- The contribution of the research to the improvement of education
- Your plan for producing the joint scholarly article or conference presentation, including current state of the work, named journal or conference, and timeline for completion
- A mentoring plan jointly developed by you and your faculty mentor describing how you will work together on developing and submitting the article for publication or for presentation at a conference
Applications are due June 15, 2024. They will be reviewed by the Director of Doctoral Studies and the Associate Dean for Research, and the recipient of the 2024 award will be announced early July, 2024. Please direct any questions to wheoor@bu.edu.
