Nicole Kingdon is a doctoral student in educational studies with a concentration in language & literacy education at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Additionally, she is a graduate research fellow at the Center on the Ecology of Early Development (CEED), supporting the Playful Learning Institute Project, Multnomah Preschool for All Project, Planting CEEDs of Joy & Peace Initiative, and Language & Literacy for Liberation Initiative.

Nicole is a certified 200-hour, trauma-informed yoga teacher and social-emotional learning facilitator through Breathe for Change. Her research interests are in examining how mindfulness practices can support the language, literacy, and social-emotional development of early childhood experiencing marginalization. Furthermore, she aims to delineate how mindfulness practices may foster a more positive classroom climate and build educator well-being. In order to be grounded in specific cultural and linguistic environments, she has a strong interest in using design-based research methodologies by offering mindfulness practices as a resource and building the interventions with and for the community.

As a student at Suffolk University, Nicole was a member of the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program (a research preparatory program for first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students), a Jumpstart AmeriCorps Member, a certified childcare teacher at Bright Horizons, a Research Assistant in Suffolk’s Early Childhood Risk and Resilience Lab, and a teaching assistant for several courses.
