Dr. Stefi G. Rubin, a devoted educator and practicing therapist who taught for many years in the Child and Family Studies program at Wheelock College, passed away July 30, 2026.

Dr. Rubin is remembered for her endless commitment to bringing together scholarship and clinical experience and encouraging students to see resilience and courage. She was passionate about helping children and families navigate trauma, illness, and loss, and her work contributed to the development and understanding of the child life profession.

Her dedication to her students was recognized with Wheelock College’s Longfellow Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom touching the lives of colleagues, students, families, and countless children.

“Stefi divided her time as a professor, psychologist and child and family therapist,” said Claire White, director of the Child Life & Family-Centered Care program at BU Wheelock. “During a conversation I had with her about her work, she shared that a motivating force for her was seeing the strengths in children and families who too often get pathologized and thinking broadly, ecologically, about the context of children and families’ lives.  Stefi was a beloved Wheelock faculty member and leaves a beautiful legacy.”
