Linda Rhodes Receives BU Wheelock Award for Staff Excellence
BU Wheelock’s Linda Rhodes was recently recognized for her service and dedication to the college with the 2025 Boyd E. Dewey Award for Excellence. Rhodes, who holds the position of payroll administrator, was recognized for her dedication and service to BU Wheelock and Boston University.
Rhodes, who has been with Boston University since 1981, manages all aspects of the employment and payroll process for BU Wheelock. She is also the primary liaison with University human resources, payroll, student payroll, and provost faculty actions.

Rhodes was nominated for the award by her colleagues Cathy O’Connor, professor of education and linguistics, and Marianne Taylor, senior grants administrator. The award was presented during a recent gathering.
“Linda’s deep knowledge of the university has been a key support for multiple members of the Wheelock community facing complex problems,” said Marianne Taylor, in remarks during the presentation of the award. “She provides guidance and assistance in a way that can lighten some very heavy situations and provide needed perspective.”
“For many years, I have relied on Linda to help me find my way through the bureaucratic maze of Boston University,” said O’Connor. “Through her deep understanding of student and faculty payroll, Human Resources, and sometimes even facets of the provost’s office, she helped me get through many challenging puzzles. And she always has done this with a kind, calm and self-effacing demeanor—and an edge of humor whenever appropriate.”
Dean Boyd E. Dewey was a long-time BU staff member who served the university for over 40 years. The award given in his name recognizes members of the BU Wheelock staff who exemplify his profound commitment to excellence and dedication to the creation and maintenance of an equitable and respectful community. Inaugurated in 2020, the award has previously been given to Michael Dennehy, Paul Hastings, and Maryellen Madaio.
