Program Pathways
For Current Teachers
The EdM in Mathematics Education is for individuals who already have an initial teaching license or who are interested in teaching outside the public school system. This program can be completed full- or part-time as you continue to teach and can be started in any semester.
In Person or Online Options
The flexible master’s (EdM) in Math Education offers students the opportunity to join courses in person or online for remote, synchronous participation.
Licensure Option
Coursework in the EdM in Math Education fulfills the professional license requirements for those who already have their initial license and are hoping to progress to their full professional license. If you are seeking initial teacher licensure, you can also explore the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Mathematics Education.

Meghan Shaughnessy

Dr. Leslie Dietiker is an associate professor of mathematics education, as well as BU Wheelock’s associate dean for research. Her research focuses attention on the curricular perspectives of mathematics teachers and their use of curriculum materials. Dr. Dietiker is lead author and editor of multiple mathematics textbooks for middle and high school. She is the recipient of one of Boston University’s top recognition for educators, the Metcalf Award for Excellence in Teaching.
