BU Wheelock’s Master of Education (EdM) in Applied Human Development prepares youth-serving practitioners to assume leadership roles and responsibilities. You can choose from two concentrations inside of the Applied Human Development master’s degree: positive youth development and sports coaching. With a focus on applying theory to practice, you’ll be introduced to the concepts and intersections surrounding developmental theory, educational practice, and socio-cultural influences.

The flexible master’s in Applied Human Development is designed with working professionals in mind, and is toward professionals currently in youth-serving fields, as well those hoping to make a career transition. You’ll learn leadership, research, interpersonal communications, policy analysis, and more. Students can attend full- or part-time; they can matriculate during any semester; and most of our classes are held during the evening.

Students in the positive youth development concentration will study youth development and engagement, developmental approaches, and more. The sports coaching program is geared toward individuals who would like to begin or advance a career in athletic coaching.

The master’s degree in Applied Human Development program prepares students for careers in sports coaching and positive development in diverse settings. It emphasizes the foundations of learning and education across developmental domains (e.g., cognitive, affective, moral, physical, social, etc.), and considers issues of cultural and social diversity.
