My teaching and research interests are in the areas of family, immigration, race and globalization with a focus on South Asia as well as the Asian American experience. My current projects include studies of the inter-connections of race and immigration, including an analysis of the racialization of Muslim Americans that focuses on media coverage of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. I am also interested in comparative analyses of the dynamics of new middle class families in emerging economies around the world with particular attention to the relationship of new consumption practices to family life.
