Volunteer Basis, Potential for UROP Funding

I would like to invite an undergraduate student to join my lab in the Boston University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. My research concerns parent-adolescent communication, especially in the context of youth mental health issues. We are in the process of running and analyzing data from several clinical trials in which caregivers underwent a communication training intervention. We are investigating the impact of the intervention on caregivers’ communication strategies, caregiver mental health, and youth mental health. At the same time, we are exploring innovative ways of implementing and disseminating our research findings with caregivers, outside of typical therapy sessions, such as e-course materials and social media interaction. Students will have the opportunity to learn motivational interviewing techniques, code audio recordings of caregivers using different communication strategies, and create digital content aimed at disseminating useful information to caregivers of adolescents and young adults. Students from under-represented backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply, as we want to ensure that our materials are accessible and relevant to a diverse group of stakeholders.
