Overview

Undergraduate Research Assistant Position (in French)

Supervisor: Estelle E. Brun (PhD Candidate in Political Science and Graduate Student Affiliate at the Center for Innovation in Social Science)

Work period: 5 weeks from June 22 through July 24

Pay: $16.50 per hour (total stipend of $825)

Hours: 10 hours per week (total of 50 hours)

*Please note that it is possible to accommodate the student’s schedule with fewer hours worked per week combined with a longer work period.*

Location: Most of the work can be done remotely; in-person periodic meetings will be held at the Department of Political Science

Description: The undergraduate research assistant will assist Estelle Brun with the transcription and analysis of original interview data collected in the French language and in the context of her doctoral research in Paris and the Côte d’Azur. Specific tasks include:

(a) Transcribing audiofiles of semi-structured interviews
(b) Training in the thematic analysis method
(c) Conducting thematic analysis of the transcribed interview data

Qualifications:

1. Language skills: Master fluency in the French language
a. Including excellent writing skills
2. Attention to detail
3. Outstanding organizational skills
4. Good interpersonal skills
5. Ability to meet deadlines

Preference will be given to candidates majoring in social sciences and related fields, with CITI certification, and a demonstrated interest in qualitative methods and/or electoral politics in Western democracies.

Candidates must be currently enrolled as students at Boston University, and must be authorized to work on campus.
