Potential for UROP Funding

Overview

I am writing a biography of a Palestinian communist couple who met in Jerusalem in 1929. Looking for a fluent Arabic reader to help scour the British Mandate-era Arabic press for information on the Palestinian Communist Party, the Spanish Civil War, the 1936-39 Arab revolt, and so forth. Much of the source material is digitized, and the work could be done remotely. This could be a part-time summer job through the UROP Summer 2026 Humanities Scholar program (contact me by April 10 so we can apply by April 17). If you also know Hebrew and can read the yishuv press as well, that would be a plus (but not a dealbreaker if you don’t). But you should have taken at least one history class at BU or have a strong sense of how historical research is done.
