SLHS PhD Candidate Michael Scimeca Receives ASHF Scholarship

Michael Scimeca, a PhD candidate in Speech Language & Hearing Sciences, received a Graduate Student Scholarship from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation), the philanthropic arm of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Scimeca is a graduate student in the Aphasia Research Lab where he is working on Predicting Rehabilitation Outcomes using Computational Modeling in bilingual aphasia (PROCoM) with the project PI and lab director Professor Swathi Kiran. As part of the PROCom project, Scimeca is evaluating and treating bilingual Spanish-English speaking participants who have experienced a stroke. His research interests include the assessment and treatment for bilingual aphasia and acquired reading and writing disorders following stroke.

This is the second consecutive year the ASHF Graduate Student Scholarship has been awarded to a Sargent student. Roxanne Segina, in the master of science in speech-language pathology program, received the award in 2019.
