Diverse American Voices - An Evening of Song by American Composers

Boston University School of Music faculty members Alison Trainer, soprano and Shiela Kibbe, piano, present a song recital featuring works by 20th century American composers Lori Laitman, Ricky Ian Gordon, Lee Hoiby, H. Leslie Adams, Florence Price, and Rosephanye Powell. Song texts feature poetry from well-known American poets Mary Oliver, Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, Edna St. Vincent Millay, R.H. Grenville, and Georgia Douglas Johnson.

Soprano Alison Trainer has appeared with opera companies across the US and Switzerland, and has performed in song recitals at the prestigious Schwabacher Series in San Francisco, Trinity Church on Wall Street, and festivals in Atlanta, Cleveland, and Omaha.

Shiela Kibbe has concertized around the world with vocalists and instrumentalists, appearing across the United States and in Europe, China, Japan, and Russia. Currently Chair of the Keyboard Department in the CFA School of Music, Shiela Kibbe has premiered works by a host of American composers and may be heard in recordings on the Centaur, Albany, and Qualiton record labels.
