“Fit/Gap” exercise to test functionality of new Student Information Systems

From Dr. Jean Morrison, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer

In recent years, Boston University has taken steps to replace our core Student Information Systems (SIS), including the Student and Faculty Links. Based upon a review last year that gathered feedback from faculty, staff, and students, we are moving forward with a more detailed assessment of the new Student platform produced by software vendor Workday.

Over the next five months, the BU Student Information System Renewal Program team and Workday partner Deloitte Consulting will lead select staff and faculty through an analysis of our institutional processes to assess how well we can align with Workday Student’s standard functionality, while also improving the BU student experience. We are aiming to align with the standard functionality they offer so that we can adopt the latest, most innovative student information system technology available, now and in the future. The scope of our analysis will include Student Records, Curriculum Management, and Student Accounts.  This “Fit/Gap” exercise will identify where we “fit” and challenge us to identify ways we can adjust our processes to address the gaps we find.

You can find information about this “Fit/Gap” exercise, follow the latest progress, and contact the program team on the SIS Renewal Website. This exercise is an opportunity for us to take a fresh look at our processes and identify opportunities to improve experiences for students, faculty, and staff.  Thank you, in advance, for your support, time, and participation in this important process.
