Actions Taken by the University Council During the Fall 2023 Semester

The Boston University Council held four meetings during the fall 2023 semester on September 12, October 17, November 14, and December 12. At these meetings, the council voted to approve the following policies, also available on the University Council website:

  • Revisions to the Boston University Academic Conduct Codeupdates language to be more suitable to an educational context than a judicial context, adds updated academic conduct code process for experiences with a BU Hub (HUB) prefix, and adds unauthorized use of artificial intelligence software to the definition of plagiarism.
  • Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program Policyoutlines the conditions under which students can simultaneously work to obtain a bachelor’s and master’s degree as part of an approved combined program (takes effect in June 2025).

The council also voted during the fall 2023 semester to approve the following degree and certificate programs:

  • Graduate Certificate in Arts Marketing (MET)
  • Certificate in European Studies (Pardee)
  • EdM in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in Applied Linguistics (Wheelock)
  • EdM in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Multilingual Learner Education (Wheelock)
  • Two-Year Master of Laws in American Law (LAW)
  • Two-Year Master of Laws in Banking and Financial Law (LAW)
  • Two-Year Master of Laws in Intellectual Property and Information Law (LAW)
  • Two-Year Master of Laws in Tax Law and Two-Year Master in the Study of Tax Law (LAW)

President Freeman has concurred with these actions, which officially brings them into effect.

Finally, the council received the provost’s annual report on institutional diversity, which may be accessed on the University Council website (Kerberos protected).
