Announcement of the Search Advisory Committee for the Dean of Metropolitan College

From Dr. Jean Morrison, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer

As you know, I announced the formation last month of a Search Advisory Committee to identify a permanent dean for Metropolitan College (MET). The process for constituting a Dean Search Advisory Committee, outlined in the BU Faculty Handbook, specifies that: “the advisory committee shall consist of three faculty members elected by the faculty of the School for which a dean is to be selected, two faculty members elected by the Faculty Council from other Schools, and as many as three members designated by the provost.”

I am pleased to announce that we have completed this initial step, and the membership of the Search Advisory Committee for the Dean of the Boston University Metropolitan College (MET) is listed below:

Chrysanthos Dellarocas, Professor and Chair, Department of Information Systems,Questrom School of Business – Chair (elected by Faculty Council)

Bennett Goldberg, Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering; and Professor, Department of Physics, College of Arts & Sciences (selected by the Provost)

Daniel LeClair, Professor and Chair, Department of Applied Social Sciences, Metropolitan College (elected by Metropolitan College)

Natalie McKnight, Dean and Professor of Humanities, College of General Studies (selected by the Provost)

Victoria Parker, Associate Professor, Department of Health Policy & Management, School of Public Health (elected by Faculty Council)

Anatoly Temkin, Assistant Professor and Chair, Department of Computer Science, Metropolitan College (elected by Metropolitan College)

Joyce Walsh, Associate Professor of the Practice, Department of Mass Communication, Advertising & Public Relations, College of Communication (selected by the Provost)

Roger Warburton, Associate Professor, Department of Administrative Sciences, Metropolitan College (elected by Metropolitan College)

I would like to give special thanks to the MET Faculty and the University’s Faculty Council for their swift efforts in electing members to serve on the committee. I also want to thank the members of the committee for their service, and give special acknowledgement to Professor Chrysanthos Dellarocas who has agreed to serve as Chair.

As outlined in my memo of July 15 the selection of a new dean is among the most important decisions we make. The MET Dean Search Advisory Committee will immediately begin its work of soliciting nominations for candidates from within the University and evaluating the qualifications and assessing the strengths of nominees and applicants. We look forward to receiving the Committee’s recommendations of 2-3 qualified candidates by Friday, October 30, 2015, for final selection by President Brown and approval by the Board of Trustees.
