Join us for a Photonics/Neurophotonics Center Student Organized Seminar

On Wednesday, February 19th, 2020, Denise Cai, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, will lead a discussion on “Chasing After the Ever Fluid Memory Ensemble.” This lunch seminar will be held at the Boston University Photonics Center, 8 Saint Mary’s Street, Room 906, Boston, MA 02215.

Check in begins at 11:30am and the seminar begins at 12:00 noon.

Abstract:  While memories are often thought of as flashbacks to previous experience, it is far more important for decision making and survival to properly use and update learned information to guide future behavior. Thus, it is critical to have a flexible memory system that can update previously learned information important for survival. Rather than conserving exact representations of past memories, data from in vivo imaging calcium experiments suggest that memory representations encoded through neural ensembles continuously reorganize to accommodate the arrival of new information related to previous events. The Cai Lab’s findings suggest that these constant changes in memory representations reflect a circuit mechanism for updating memories with new information and contribute to behavioral flexibility following learning.

Registration is required to ensure a lunch will be ordered for you.
