The ISSO is pleased to announce our Fall workshop schedule on topics including on-campus employment, applying for Optional Practical Training, and Interviewing in the U.S.

All workshops during the Fall semester will be offered virtually via Zoom.  When you register for a workshop at the corresponding link below, you will receive an e-mail confirmation with the link to access the session.

You’re Hired! On-Campus Employment for International Students

This workshop covers tips for finding a job on campus, U.S. work permission, your rights and expectations as a U.S. worker, Social Security numbers, getting paid and taxes. It is now offered online in an on-demand format.  If you are interested in learning about how to work at BU, you can watch the video any time!

Join staff from the ISSO and the Center for Career Development (CCD) for a program designed to help international students understand the job search process in the U.S. Sharpen your interviewing techniques by bringing your strengths as an international student to the table. This workshop will help you familiarize yourself with the intricacies of the U.S. interview process while learning how to best assess your skills and international experience to answer “difficult” interview questions.

This workshop is intended for Boston University graduates who are on F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) or the OPT STEM Extension for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math majors. Maintaining status during OPT and STEM requires careful attention to employment restrictions and meeting SEVIS reporting requirements. This new ISSO workshop will address common questions we receive from OPT and STEM students and will review SEVIS reporting responsibilities and tools available to ensure compliance.

Sharpen your interviewing techniques by bringing your strengths as an international student to the table. This workshop will help you familiarize yourself with the intricacies of the U.S. interview process while learning how to best assess your skills and international experience to answer "difficult" interview questions such as:

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Tell me about yourself?
  • Do you need company sponsorship?

While these questions may seem simple, they are actually multi-layered. Learn to respond with well-informed answers that will lead to more dynamic interviews.

Join fellow students at one or all of this five-part series co-sponsored by the ISSO, the Educational Resource Center (ERC), the Center for English Language and Orientation Programs (CELOP), BU Libraries, the CAS Writing Center, and the COM Writing Center. The workshop series will cover academic topics including time management, academic expectations in the U.S. classroom, U.S. library skills and tips for writing and test-taking.
