Boston University’s History of Art & Architecture PhD program maintains a strong record of placing graduates into meaningful academic and professional roles across universities, museums, cultural institutions, and research environments. Alumni regularly secure positions in academic teaching, curatorial work, conservation, collections management, and public arts programming—demonstrating the program’s reach in a broad and competitive field.

The program supports graduate students throughout the transition from studies to career. Faculty mentors work closely with students as they shape application materials, refine portfolios and research presentations, and prepare for interviews across a range of professional pathways, including teaching-centered positions, museum-focused roles, and international opportunities. A collaborative professional development seminar helps students with peer review of materials, strengthen presentations, and gain practical insight into multiple art- and architecture-related job markets.

The list below highlights recent placements and celebrates the accomplishments of our graduates, though it is by no means exhaustive.
